There seems to be a trend in Hollywood in recent years involving celebrities that want to leave America. They all have their own reasons, but now Robert De Niro has joined the mix.
81-year-old Robert De Niro announced that he is going to leave the country. His reason for doing so might surprise many people, but other people are not going to be surprised.
In speaking about the United States, De Niro said: “There was a time when there was respect here. Now, I don’t see it anymore.” He feels as if the values in American society have eroded significantly.
Although he is just a human being, his words do carry a lot of weight because of his celebrity status. Since he perceives that the United States is not in line with his personal values any longer, he has decided to move.
At this point, he hasn’t specified where he wants to reside, but it does seem to be a permanent departure.
Many Americans may feel similarly about the lack of respect shown in the United States, but not everybody is in the position to pick up and move to another country. Quite simply, it is out of their price range.
Now that De Niro has made the announcement official, reactions are mixed. Some people are understanding of how he feels about life in America, but others feel that it is an unnecessary and drastic move.
Undoubtedly, Hollywood will miss his presence. He has been in some of the largest action movies in recent years, but his career is winding down. Maybe he will just take his dissatisfaction and retire somewhere else. We hope he finds the comfort he is looking for.
